Dog barking sound
Barking is the most common sound in most breeds of dogs. It is connected with alertness, fear or aggression. In addition, barking often turns into an almost continuous loud howl, which is difficult to distinguish because of individual sounds. For aggressive dog the sound of barking is lower and when it feels timidity or fear, the sound is better. Sometimes it is difficult to notice when the barking becomes into a scream. A dog, which is not jittery, will not bark, except when the bark acts as a biased reaction associated with a joyful mood, or when the dog is in a state that is characteristic barking. Of course, a dog barks in situations where the barking brings her direct benefit: for example, an animal very easily learns that barking can attract attention and thereby it helps her to meet any need.
For the man dogs barking is a warning function. Consequently, in different situations, the barking can mean anything – from extreme aggression to strong fear. To understand that when two dogs barking wants to express one of them, they do not necessarily have to be familiar. The intensity of bark depends also on the size of the dog. Little fearful dog, hearing the loud barking of a large unfamiliar dog, often frightened, even if its “interlocutor” is far away, and she did not see him. Very often the dogs can use their knowledge to discern the voice of an unfamiliar dog, and to determine its size and degree of danger. But we do not know how will behave a little dog, which is not familiar with other congeners and is not versed in the nuances of their voices. Most likely, the dog has no such experience for being able to correctly determine the size of the interlocutor. Meanwhile, in a pack of wolves there are no such strong differences in the size of individual specimens.
Furthermore the dog can bark expressing his joy this way. Animal, which knows from experience that soon it will be something pleasant for him, is barking with pleasure. Often it is also a very definite appeal to the man.
For the members of the pack, the characteristic of barking, which usually appear during the chase, initially, probably means a signal route. At the same time it can probably be taken for a biased response.
Predisposition of the dog to bark is usually very large. However, it can be weaned from it – at least in those cases where the stimuli are not very strong. Private individuals bark much less often than the other members of the same breed. Perhaps such a fear of dogs is unknown, because as we know the fear – one of the strongest agents of barking. A dog that is not afraid is often dangerous to outsiders. The idea of people that “barking dog does not bite”, is based on accurate observations. But there are many exceptions. Thus, actively barking dog is quite capable of biting a stranger, despite the fear, and the dog, which usually does not bark, can be configured so aggressively that bites without warning, and fear.
The dog is also able of quickly learning to bark on command, without some stimulus, causing the barking.
